"Blake's 7"

Blake's 7 Gan Avon

"Blake's 7" lasted 4 years in England from 1978 to 1981. With a total of 52 episodes allowing it to be aired for a solid year (52 weeks), it gave PBS Stations in the 1980's the ability to take a break from constantly repeating the same Tom Baker episodes of Doctor Who over and over. With many early Doctor Who episodes featuring Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee missing or not yet offered, and with Davison, Colin Baker and McCoy still filming new ones, the number of episodes were limited until the very late 1980's. This lead to Blake's 7, another PBS Exclusive in America, gaining a cult following that lead to every episode being released on Video, which Columbia House took advantage of for their Science-Fiction Series collection.

Following the adventures of a group of seven rebel resistance fighters as they fight the evil Federation with a powerful alien ship they stumbled across, the cast nearly stayed intact for two years until the second season finale when all hell broke loose. As old characters would leave, new characters were introduced to keep the number equal to seven, and Blake himself only appeared in two epsiodes of the last two seasons, leaving second banana Avon to take over the group, and the series.

The series ended with an episode so shocking, no one has ever seen anything like it before or since.
